Worship is the heart of our community’s life. Singing, praying, and listening for God’s word in the stories of scripture prepares us to live faithfully in the week ahead.

When is the service? Where do I park?

Worship begins at 10:30am every Sunday and lasts for about 60-75 minutes. You can park around city park or in the large municipal parking lot on Bonson Street, east of the church.

What should I wear?

Come as you are! On any given Sunday morning you’ll find worshipers in what would be called their “Sunday Best” and others in jeans and t-shirts. You’ll see sneakers, sandals, and suede. Wear what is comfortable to you. Our sanctuary has air-conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter, but it is an historical building, so we suggest bringing a layer or two for fluctuating temperatures.

What can I expect?

When you arrive, you will be greeted by our Hospitality Team who will hand you a bulletin and be able to answer any questions you might have. Our worship style is traditional in form and progressive in content. We do our best to use inclusive language to talk about God and the world. We sing a blend of old hymns and contemporary sacred music and offer several opportunities for contemplative prayer. Our excellent choir sings approximately twice a month. We share in Holy Communion on the first Sunday of every month. We practice “open communion,” meaning that anyone (of any age, religion, or practice) is welcome to come to the table of grace. To make this sacred meal as accessible as possible, we serve gluten-free bread, and our cup contains grape juice. After worship, we share in fellowship right in the sanctuary. When possible, delicious food and hot coffee is provided by volunteers and is never a letdown.

Worshiping with Children?

We are committed to welcoming ALL people into the full life of our worshiping community. That means any age, too. We hope you’ll consider letting your young ones remain in the sanctuary throughout the service. You’ll find baskets in the pews with quiet activities to help them engage – including books, coloring pages, soft toys, and puzzles. Before the sermon, there will be a “Children’s Message” for the young and the young at heart. Our pastors help to make the stories we tell accessible for young minds. We also have a full staff of responsible, vetted childcare providers* in the basement. They would be happy to spend the hour with your young ones allowing you the chance to worship in peace.

* Childcare during Worship has been paused due to Covid, but if you wish to attend and desire childcare, please contact us at office@uccplatt.org

Special Needs?

An accessible entrance is located on the east side of our building. Just inside that door, you’ll also find our all-gender, accessible restroom. In the back of the sanctuary you will find a case of devices linked with our sound system to help those who have a hard time hearing. There, you will also find a small lift to access the basement. We also provide large-print copies of the bulletin for those who might need them. If there is anything we can do to help make your visit more accessible, please contact us before you visit.
